Why Counting Your Blessings Changes Everything

"Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life."

Rumi

When our kids are small we celebrate every accomplishment - beginning steps, words, and their first day of school. For some reason in adulthood, we relinquish all of this for ourselves. Celebrating small victories seems trivial. But is it? One of my besties, Shan, often texts me about #miniblessings - loving how her hair came together, an awesome prayer / meditation moment, etc. It's become a way of keeping our spirits up, and staying in gratitude.

What if you allowed yourself to smile more about that morning cup of coffee, or smoothie instead of treating it like another item to check off of your to-do-list? I know I sound like your Mama right now, can you see me shaking my head? Ha! But real talk, y'all, somebody woke up in the world today without water, food or shelter. If you possess all three, it's not a normality, it's miraculous! Really.

Go ahead, exhale, smile, celebrate those seemingly small blessings you would normally dismiss. Each time you do this you break the chains of complacency. You welcome liberation and living fully, instead of merely existing.

Allow your mind to accept gratitude and honor the infinite possibilities before us. Stop waiting for life to get "better" to say thank you; let's live now, awakened to the beauty and uniqueness of these precious moments.
